N.B. The ‘OFFICIAL LOG BOOK No.8 for a Home Trade Ship’
showed that she did not sail from Barnstaple until 21st July 1919
and made Swansea on 22nd July 1919
Also, there is further information on John Newcombe’s career at sea, especially on his post First
World War command of the schooner EILIAN, at http://www.newcombe.info/.
For those with a deep interest in the subject of coastal trading Peter Newcombe has self-published An Account of the Motor Vessel Eilian and
this can be purchased via the above-mentioned website. This is a greatly
detailed work, with some unusual and fascinating information.
