N.B. The entries of ships’ names in italics denote men in mates’ billets. Theoretically the entries in red denote discharges, but often these do not correspond with crew-lists and agreements.
For information:-
Robert Roach having returned to the U.K from blockade running during the American Civil War, gained his master’s ticket. It can be assumed that he settled down somewhat, as he then exclusively served overwhelmingly in command of steamships belonging to the Hull company Lumsden Brownlow and later on Wilson Line vessels: mostly in the Baltic Trade. He retired in 1888.
