Nature of Services

On the 19 July, 1918, fought and manoeuvred his ship with great skill and daring whereby enemy submarine U.B.110 was twice rammed and finally sunk. The prompt and vigorous offensive not only resulted in sinking an enemy vessel but also saved a large and valuable convoy from attack. Subsequently he brought his ship into port without loss or accident to any ranks or ratings on board, though the ship had sustained considerable damage.
