This is a very
long series and the indexes are the final two volumes. The original volume
number as found in the index needs to be converted to the modern piece number.
When the correct entry is found it will be seen that the information is spread
across two sides of the page in a complex form of double entry book-keeping. As
it is so complex the following has been reformatted in a completely different
way.

As well as those
in the earlier columns (as above), there are a number of additional entries,
such as for income tax, but there are others within the ‘Admiralty Orders,
Minutes, &c.’ that give extra information on appointments and such like.
For officers where their service records are missing or patchy (such as
surgeons and coastguards) these may be very useful in building up
details of careers. But, as stated on the main page, there are presently at
least problems with the indexes and there appear to be no ledgers before
1852.
