This hand written volume is indexed by ships’ names at the front and by individuals’ names at the rear. Although for payments made are in the late 1830s these deal with much earlier service: starting from 1777. Also most of the headings are not shown, so in order to understand these often one must have a good grounding in naval administration of the time. Some entries, however, such as the one below are largely self-explanatory.
