Examples of Warrant Officers’ Pay Records

Apparently these are unindexed, it is therefore difficult to see how individuals can be found within this massive body of documents (of 20 volumes). If found, however, there can be a wealth of information:-

Excluding those for surgeons, in theory this series looks to be highly useful, but in reality is useless. Although there is an external index the volume numbers do not match with the surviving volumes and it is patently obvious that there is a great many of these missing. Apart from anything else, the registers for officers other than surgeons do not show payments before c.1852. (From conversations with relevant members of staff at TNA, they did not know this.) Up to now I have not tested those for surgeons.
